How Drone Shows Work

From concept to countdown — the technology behind GPS-synchronized swarms, the creative process, and everything that happens between your inquiry and your show night.

A drone light show is a precisely choreographed aerial performance in which hundreds of GPS-guided drones fly in coordinated formation, each carrying a high-output LED array. Every movement, color change, and formation is pre-programmed and synchronized to music. On show night, the entire sequence launches on a single command and executes autonomously, with a trained ground crew monitoring every aircraft in real time.

The Process

From Inquiry to Show Night

01

Proposal

We start with a conversation about your event: the date, the venue, and what you want the night to do. We'll recommend a show size and creative approach and come back with a proposal within days. Once you're ready, a 50% deposit secures your date and covers design.

02

Planning

Before anything is designed, we plan the site. Final site plans are shared with you before the design phase begins.

  • Your audience location, and the best viewing angle and distance
  • The launch area and the show location, with the flight area centered for the best view and for safety
  • A buffer zone around the flight area: we never fly over people or active streets
  • Certificates of insurance covering aviation, liability, workers’ comp, and general liability
  • FAA authorizations and permit submittals, where your site requires them
03

Design

Your show is built from standard or custom designs, with 4 to 12 custom animations. You review it at every step, and nothing moves to programming until you've approved what you've seen.

  • A storyboard of 12 to 22 designs
  • Animated renderings of the show in real time, so you see the actual shapes, movements, and transitions
  • A soundtrack created to accompany the show, with formations timed to the music
  • The final 50% is due before the show
04

Flight

On show day our crew is self-sufficient: you provide the site, and we bring everything needed to fly.

  • Crew arrival 6–8 hours before the show, for staging and setup
  • Multiple safety tests before launch
  • 11–14 minutes of flight, with the ground team monitoring every drone in real time
  • Breakdown takes 1 to 2 hours after the show
The Technology

What Makes It Work

Geofencing and RTK Positioning

Each aircraft has its flight area defined in three-dimensional space, bounded by GPS that may be augmented by Real-Time Kinematic positioning. That is what holds a formation in shape instead of letting it drift.

Redundant Positioning and Comms

RTK corrections are transmitted over Wi-Fi plus a secondary 433/915 MHz channel, and every aircraft maintains a continuous telemetry and control link to a centralized ground control station. Two paths, not one.

Real-Time Telemetry

All aircraft positioning, flight states, and health telemetry are transmitted to the ground control station live throughout the show, so the crew is reading the fleet rather than watching it.

Automated Return-to-Home

If an anomaly is detected, visually or through the telemetry, corrective action can be issued immediately, including an automated return to home. An affected aircraft comes down under control.

On-Site Safety Officers

Trained ground crew secure the perimeter and scan for aerial hazards throughout the show, alongside the team reading telemetry at the ground control station.

Music Synchronization

Every formation and reveal is timed to the musical arc of the show, with light pulses matched to rhythm, tempo, and drops. The show is programmed in advance and runs as designed; on the night, our operator is on a live radio channel with your event director or DJ so the launch and cues land when they should.

Who You Work With

Direct Access to Your Flight Team

There is no project-manager layer and no handoff to a sales team. You get direct access to the team assigned to your flight, from the first planning call through show night.

That holds at every scale, from 100 drones to 1,500: our crew designs, programs, and flies every show, so yours is never handed to someone else's operators.
